Join the Think Forward Educators Bendigo Branch
Our goals
In the spirit of discussing our interest and knowledge of the Science of Reading, we created a group where teachers can get together and discuss Literacy Education in our classrooms and beyond. We believe in the philosophy underpinned by the Science of Reading, and are very keen to discuss, brainstorm and refine our use of Systematic Synthetic Phonics, to achieve the best outcomes for our students. We also hope to be able to save time and generate ideas by sharing resources.
Our focus will be on students in Years 3-10.

Our Branch Leaders
Carolyn Wright
Carolyn (Caz) was a primary school teacher for many years and then gradually diverted her energies into private tutoring. When helping the students one on one, she was able to see the importance of SSP for students who were struggling with literacy. Caz also had the opportunity to undertake a MSL course through the Australian Dyslexia Association and has become passionate about the Science of Reading philosophy.
Penelope Fyffe
Penny started her teaching career in VCE psychology and after returning from family leave, taught at a Flexible Learning Option (FLO) school, where she discovered the importance of teaching literacy using the SSP approach with older learners. Penny has trained in both MacqLit and Sounds-Write, and currently uses the MacqLit program for literacy intervention at Weeroona College Bendigo, and a Sounds-Write based approach in 1:1 private tutoring.
Kate Jackson
Kate is an educator in a F-12 school, predominantly teaching in secondary levels. The school teaches from Foundation with SSP and a SOR focus. As an educator who spends time with beginning learners, she sees the importance of decoding systematically to develop reading skills and uses that knowledge to help older learners access language. She has also completed The Writing Revolution training.
