ChatGPT for Literacy Teachers

With the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, there is a growing interest in exploring its potential applications in education. What is the effectiveness and utility of ChatGPT, an AI language model, in creating learning material for students?

In this initial session, we will explore the benefits of integrating ChatGPT into various literacy planning and teaching tasks, and discuss our current understanding of the tool's effectiveness, accuracy, and strategies to make use of this technology. Let’s learn together!

Lyn Stone

Lyn is an educational linguist and author. She lives and works in Victoria, Australia where she runs her teacher training and specialist tutoring practice, Lifelong Literacy.

Her goal is to help educators awaken linguistic curiosity in their students using creative, engaging tools and strategies that are based upon scientific consensus as to what constitutes best practice.

Lyn creates research-informed professional development seminars, both online and face-to-face, for teachers and other education professionals. 

She has written three books, Spelling for Life, Language for Life, and Reading for Life.

Dr Nathaniel Swain

Teacher, Instructional Coach, Researcher and Writer, Nathaniel has recently joined La Trobe School of Education as Senior Lecturer. Nathaniel is passionate about language, literacy, learning, and effective teaching for all students. Nathaniel has taught a range of learners in primary school settings, and has a blog for teachers known as Dr Swain’s Cognitorium. In 2019, Nathaniel founded a community of teachers and other educators committed to the Science of Learning: THINK FORWARD EDUCATORS, now a registered charity.
